Somewhere in the Night (US, 1946)

The YT copy is of good quality, and while the film isn't bad, it's not the most convincing of noirs. The quality of the supporting cast (Richard Conte et al) has been commented upon.

The first noir 'meta' moment? In at least two scenes, the ubiquity of hats on cops heads in movies is discussed.

Interestingly, we learn in this movie that the Yiddish word 'Shamus' was/is American slang for a Private Investigator; the pronunciation is that of the Irish name Seamus.
