Nebraska (US 2103)

What is it about the run-up to Christmas that seems to bring some truly excellent movies and greatly reduced audiences to QFT?

Nebraska a case in point.

Articulate, good fun and high quality, as one would expect from Alexnader Payne. This diverging somewhat to his slightly more conventional previous outings; it's in a slightly grainy black and white. Brings to mind in a vague, less cosmic way the Cohen Bros, and including it in the same league as The Last Picture Show is not a stretch at all.

Some nice landscape and location photography. Touching in places without being sentimental. Wife/mother's performance is constantly hilarious. Outstanding.

Far better than the trailer would suggest, and one of the year's best films. Picked up a poster of Blue is the Warmest Colour afterwards, for which the only asking price was a discretionary donation to AgeNI.
