A fairly representative noir, with its slightly imperfect plotting, and some notable nocturnal dockside photography.
One wonders if the audition scene provided some inspiration for a similar one in David Lynch's Wild at Heart. Lead John Payne also appears in noir classic Kansas City Confidential.
